ABOUT

This subtle and elegant disc is a tribute to the Baroque flute, an instrument that humbles artists who choose to play it. The recording technique enhances the quiet strength in all aspects of this masterful interpretation.

The present solo album offers fine examples of free forms in Baroque music that allowed composers to give free rein to their imagination for the benefit of a solo instrument. Presented here are capriccios composed by the great flutist Quantz, Boismortier’s preludes, Telemann’s fantaisies, and C. P.E. Bach’s superb sonata. Grégoire Jeay himself recorded his own folia, inspired by Marin Marais.

Specializing in Baroque flute, Grégoire frequently performs with world famous artists and ensembles in Canada, the United States, Mexico, France, the UK and Turkey. He is renowned for his musicality as well as for his great skills in ornamentation and improvisation.

This recording also features awards-winning Sylvain Bergeron, an accomplished interpreter of the lute and the theorbo, co-founder of La Nef ensemble, who has toured on all five continents with the greatest performers.
